Kuhler Handmade – crafted with care, inspired by simplicity.
Hi, I’m Corien.

Combining Skill and Creativity
Kuhler Handmade is the result of a lifelong love of sewing and a deep desire to bring beauty and order into everyday life. I’m the maker behind the brand — a one-woman business dedicated to creating simple, sustainable rope goods for the home.
Sewing has always been part of my story. I grew up watching my mother make clothes and ballet costumes with incredible care. Sitting beside her, I began stitching clothes for my dolls and dreaming of becoming a fashion designer. While my path eventually led me into the performing arts, that creative spark never faded. I continued sewing through my studies, mending clothes and crafting costumes for performances — always drawn to the quiet joy of working with my hands.
Later, while working in a mostly administrative role in a theatre, I found myself craving something tactile and creative again. That’s when I discovered the art of coiled rope sewing. It was simple, functional, and unexpectedly meditative — and I was hooked.
Now, I create each Kuhler piece from my home studio in Namibia. Using natural cotton or jute rope and strong zigzag stitching, I make baskets, trays, and accessories that are as sturdy as they are beautiful. Each item is specially made to order, designed to bring warmth, function, and a little calm to busy spaces.
I’ve always struggled to keep a perfectly neat home, and I know how much a thoughtfully placed basket can help bring ease and intention to daily living. That’s what Kuhler is really about: slow, sustainable making that supports the way we live — with a little more clarity, a little more beauty, and a whole lot of heart.
Behind the Brand
The name Kuhler is a blend of two important parts of my life — my maiden name Meyer and my husband’s surname Kuhlmann. When I was searching for a name that felt both personal and purposeful, this combination just clicked. I later discovered that “Kühler” in German means cooler, calmer, more composed — which felt serendipitously aligned with the spirit of my work.
Kuhler is about balance: between beauty and function, creativity and simplicity, order and ease.
Every item I make reflects these values. I keep my materials natural, my process mindful, and my designs honest. There’s no mass production here — just me, my sewing machine, and a commitment to making things that last.

Thank you for being here and for supporting small, slow, and soulful making.
Warmly,
